THE MEMORIAL FOUNDATION

The Worcester County Veterans Memorial at Ocean Pines Foundation, Inc. was formed in 2004 as an all-volunteer nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization funded wholly through donations and fundraising activities. The Foundation is organized to maintain the Memorial and to support its programs. The policies and programs of the Foundation are overseen by the Board of Directors.

Each year the Foundation hosts Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies with participants from many veterans’ and local community organizations

Annual School TourEDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAM

In 2006, the Foundation established an Education Outreach program which sponsors annual educational field trips to the Memorial for all fifth-grade students in Worcester County.  The Foundation pays all costs including transportation and booklets for each student.  The annual golf tournament is the major fundraiser for this program.

During their visit, students learn the purpose of the memorial and the stories behind some of the bricks and pavers. They are also given a lesson on flag history and etiquette and taught how to fold a flag by Stephen Decatur High School NJROTC members.  Read more about The Field Trip Experience.

The program was honored with the Governor’s Service Award for Volunteerism in 2012 and the William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award in 2013.
